THE 30TH staging of the Waseley Wobbler - previously known as the North Worcestershire 8 and organised by Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club - was held on September 30.

Over 120 runners tested themselves against the challenging and beautifully scenic Waseley Hills in perfect weather as the rain held off for most of the day and warm and dry conditions were seen throughout the race, although it was very greasy underfoot.

Birmingham Running Athletics & Triathlon Club's (BRAT) Chris Ashford was the first finisher home in 55.24, less than two minutes off the course record, followed by Wolverhampton & Bilston athlete Daniel Brazier (56.38) in second and BRAT's Robin Biles (59.38) in third.

The first woman home was Emma Tod (unattached) who finished in 69.47, second was Bournville Harriers' Sarah Rock (70.44) and third was B&R's Mel Hepke (72.44).

B&R's U15 athletes Candy Lockett and Oliver Kemp and U23 women's athlete Sam Lloyd travelled to Wrexham over the same weekend to take part in their last throwing competition of the season - the Final Fling - before winter training sets in.

There were a few perplexed faces, however, as Kemp - having previously fractured his wrist - turned up to compete with his wrist in plaster.

Three personal bests and a first placing in the fourth discipline left everyone bemused, not least his coach who had advised him against competing!

Results: Candy Lockett, U15 girls - shot putt: 6th with a PB of 8.29m; discus: 6th with 20.15m; hammer: 5th with 27.19m; javelin: 10th with 20.37m.

Oliver Kemp, U15 boys - shot putt: 6th with a PB of 9.79m; discus: 5th with a PB of 20.59m; hammer: 5th with a PB of 18.28m; javelin: 1st with 31.26m.

Sam Lloyd, U23 Women - shot putt: 1st with a PB of 9.84m; discus: 2nd with 26.01m; javelin: 1st with 36.41m.
