A SPECIAL memorial service is being held to allow families who have suffered the loss of a baby to remember their little ones.

Candles can be lit at the 'Missing You' Babies Memorial Service which takes place at St Peter's Church in Church Lane, Ipsley at 11am on Saturday, November 10.

The service will also include hymns, readings, music and prayers and there will also be an opportunity for families who have lost a child or children to talk to each other.

Members of the Alexandra Hospital's Spiritual and Pastoral Care Team, St Peter's Church and Thomas Brother's Funeral Directors have organised the service which is open to all those affected by early or late miscarriage, termination, still birth or neonatal death, regardless of their background or faith. The service is not just for families who have lost children recently, as people have attended past events to mark the special birthday of their child had they survived.

Rev Andrew Fisher, chaplain for the Alex, said: "The service is a chance for families to reflect and say goodbye after the heartbreak of losing a child.

"Losing a child is every parent’s nightmare. Not only do we feel the physical loss but we feel our hopes and dreams for the future have been dashed as well. It is hoped this special service at St Peter’s will be another way for families to remember their little ones and help continue the healing process. All are welcome."

A book of remembrance has been donated by Thomas Brothers and will be dedicated at the service where it will be available to sign, as well as in the multi-faith prayer room at the Woodrow Drive hospital.

Contact the spiritual and pastoral care team at the Alex on 01527 505723 for more information.
