Buoyant Bees enjoy a fine week

IT HAS been a tremendous week for Lee Knight's Studley outfit who followed up Saturday's excellent 3-1 victory at Dunkirk in the Midland Alliance with a 2-1 triumph over higher ranked Halesowen Town in the first round of the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday.

The cup success at the Beehive was a notable scalp for the Bees, who deservedly prevailed over the Northern Premier League Division One South outfit and ensured it was a tough baptism for new Yeltz boss John Hill and his management team.

The hosts took a deserved lead into the break thanks to Martin Crawford's goal just before half time and, despite an equaliser from Jean-Michel Gueyes midway through the second half, Studley progressed thanks to an 86th minute winner from former Redditch United forward Myron Semper.

Studley, who entertain Causeway United in the league tomorrow, earned their second win of the league season on Saturday as new-boy Crawford marked his Bees bow with a fine brace of goals at Dunkirk.

Crawford was only playing having completed his switch from Coleshill Town at lunchtime on the day of the game but showed his prowess in front of goal before Trevor Edwards notched a third for the visitors.

Seeing Crawford on the mark was a delight for manager Knight, who was thwarted over the summer in his attempts to sign the striker, who he managed last season at Racing Club Warwick.

Studley's only injury concern at the moment is keeper Sam Brady, who has suffered a hip injury and was replaced in goal by Mike Hewitt on Tuesday.
