THE CONVICTED murderer who was hunted by police after failing to return to a Tardebigge jail after going out on day release is now back in custody.

David William Gilbert should have been back in HMP Hewell on September 22, but went missing.

The 56-year-old was found in Penzance, where he originated from, this morning (Wednesday).

Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police, who had been working with their West Mercia Colleagues, detained him at 9.15am.

Gilbert was jailed for life for the murder of his partner in 1992. But, as he was nearing the end of his sentence, he was being considered for parole.
