THE DAUGHTER of a former councillor will be adopting a radical new look to raise money in his memory.

Lisa King is set to shave her head on November 17 in return for donations to the Primrose Hospice unit at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bromsgrove, where her dad Robin passed away in March this year aged just 60 after battling blood cancer and a brain tumour.

Mr King, who was married to the borough's current deputy mayor Wanda King, represented the Church Hill ward from 2007 and was also a long-serving member of the Labour Party and treasurer of the Redditch Constituency Labour Party.

The 18-year-old Trinity High School student told the Standard: "They were so lovely and gave him such great care. I know it doesn't get government funding so I wanted to do a fund-raiser for them.

"As well as palliative care, my dad also went over to their day centre a lot and that was a really good service which benefits a lot of people."

Lisa, who has already raised £720 but has set a target of over £1,000, added she was nervous and excited about the prospect of shaving her head, but had received a lot of support from friends, teachers and those who knew Robin at Redditch Borough Council.
