A DELIVERY driver was kicked and punched by robbers who made off with nearly £3,000.

The incident happened on a small car park near the junction of Throckmorton Road and Wharrington Hill just before 2am on last Thursday (September 20).

The driver, who is in his 30s, had just parked his lorry when he was attacked by two men and pulled to the ground. They stole a black bomber jacket and a blue Regatta waistcoat he was wearing which contained takings in various notes to the value of between £2,500 and £3,000.

Also taken was a bronze coloured iPod Touch in a black leather protective case and a Nokia mobile phone. They then picked up a black Adidas holdall the lorry driver had been carrying and ran off across a grass bank in the direction of Dowler's Hill Crescent.

Both were about 5ft 9in tall, appeared to be in their 20s and were wearing black hooded tops and face coverings. One was stocky and wearing black tracksuit bottoms and the other was slimmer, wearing a cap beneath his hood and grey jogging bottoms.

Det Con Jo Hembry said: "The victim remembers seeing a man walking in Throckmorton Road just before he parked up and we would very much like that person to come forward to establish if they heard or saw anything at all that could help our investigation.

"It was quite a sustained attack and we would urge anyone else who may have heard a commotion there, noticed anything unusual or knows who was involved to get in touch."

Anyone with any information should contact Det Con Hembry on 101, quoting incident reference number 30-S-200912, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
