Last-gasp Powell clinches spoils for Athletico

By Liam Moakes Monday 10 September 2012 Updated: 10/09 15:43

AN 89TH minute winner from Athletico's Robert Powell ruined Church Hill's perfect start to the BRT Redditch & South Warwickshire Combination Premier Division season.

Jamie Gifford's strike looked to have rescued a point for visitors Church Hill after Nathan Duke's early opener for the battling home side, but Powell had the final word for Athletico as they made it two league wins from as many matches.

Goals from Richards and Donovan moved Bartley Green level on points at the top with Black Horse and Church Hill with a 2-0 win over Alcester Town and Rubery Bridge picked up their first points of the season with a 2-1 win over Bromsgrove General La Coruna.

Two goals apiece from Hands and Kelly helped leaders Redditch Cricket Club make it five wins from five in Division One as they won 4-2 at South Redditch and JMC United continued their good run of form with a 3-2 home win over CBH Fasteners.

In Division Two Washford Lions remain unbeaten and top of the league courtesy of a 4-0 win over Rocklands and Woodland are second on goal difference after beating Kingswood Town by the same scoreline.

In Division Three unbeaten Woodrow won 4-0 to go clear at the top as two goals from Price and one each from Kendall and Brough saw off the challenge of Winyates Wanderers.

In the Keith Turner Cup Austin Ex-Apprentices gained revenge over Black Horse following the previous weekend's Premier Division defeat with a 3-2 win thanks to two goals from Butcher and one from Deeming.

Division Three outfit Bell Studley also recovered from their first defeat of the season the previous weekend as they earned a fine 3-2 victory over Division One's Translift Bendi.

The biggest entertainment of the week came in FC Club's 10-6 home win over Studley Leisure, thanks in no small part to hat-tricks from Tyrone Henderson and Adam Ainge for the hosts and four goals from Leisure's Mark Sullivan.

This coming Sunday sees Woodland host Washford Lions at Greenlands in the battle for top spot in Division Two.
