A WOMAN from Smallwood could play a key role in some of the nation's famous showpieces in future after completing her basic army training.

Kendall Lee, passed out from ATC Pirbright last Friday (August 31) and will now join the Corps of Army Music where she will complete her phase 2 training as an army musician at the Royal School of Army Music at Kneller Hall in Twickenham.

The 19-year-old, who plays French horn, will then be posted to her regimental band and is aiming to become part of the band of the Blues and Royals, part of the Household Cavalry, based in London and Windsor.

Once there the former St Augustine's High School pupil will complete an extra 18 week army equestrian course which will allow her to carry out ceremonial duties as a mounted musician and take part in events such as the Trooping of the Colour and the State Opening of Parliament.

Proud parents Scott and Edwina Lee were joined by Kendall's lecturer in uniformed public services at NEW College, Ian Berry, to watch her passing out parade which is the first step in achieving a goal Kendall has been working towards since she was 14.
