Murder and more in varied autumn season

DROITWICH theatre-goers are in for a treat this autumn as the Norbury lines up a varied and exciting programme.

September kicks off with an amateur production of A Murder Is Announced from the Norbury Players.

On stage at 7.30pm from Wednesday, September 5, to Saturday, September 8, the Agatha Christie classic adapted by Leslie Darbon begins with the announcement in the local paper of the time and place of a murder.

The victim is not one of several occupants of Miss Blackstock’s house, but an unexpected and unknown visitor. What follows is a classic puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities and even a second death.

Monthly children’s theatre productions continue on Saturday, September 15, at 2.30pm. The short one-act plays cost just £1.50 per person and are suitable for children aged four to ten.

Acclaimed box office hit Warhouse will be screened at 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 19, featuring Jeremy Irvine and Emily Watson.

Being shown by audience request, the film follows the journey of Joey, a horse trained by farmer Narracott’s teenage son Albert.

Joey is sold to the British cavalry, shipped to France, captured by the Germans and found caught in the barbed wire in No One’s Land.

Films continue on Wednesday, October 17, with the showing of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Bill Nighy.

British retirees take up residence in what they believe is a newly-restored hotel but, although it is not as luxurious as advertised, it begins to charm in unexpected ways.

Saturday, November 10, is a must-see for all Elvis fans as Dean Mack and Ben Thompson present Elvis, Memphis to Vegas.

The pair of multi-award winning tribute artists take the audience through the eras of the King’s amazing musical career, staring with the rock’n’roll years all the way to the Vegas years.

Norbury Youth Theatre will take to the stage from Wednesday, November 14, to Saturday, November 17, at 7.30pm to transport crowds to a magical fantasy land.

Their production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe joins Peter, Susan, Lucy and Edmund in Narnia, the land of perpetual winter, magic and mystery.

Controlled by a vicious cold-hearted queen, the Narnians turn to the children to help free them.
