Athletes are champions again

IN-FORM Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletics Club seniors have clinched the Midland League Division Three championship.

It was another exceptional performance from the club which has now been crowned champions for the fourth time in five years.

The title was claimed following a good all-round display at Worcester where they finished ahead of Stratford upon Avon AC, Tamworth, Telford and Yate and District.

To secure the championship all the athletes performed well but there were some outstanding performances.

Simeon Clarence won the 200m B string by just 0.1 seconds (23.8) and Andrew Freeman won the 400m hurdles B string by 0.4 seconds (68.3) – causing some serious nail-biting for his watching team-mates.

It was a bit more comfortable in the 3000m steeplechase when B&R AC’s Simon Lanckham came home first with a ten second lead (10.51m) over the second placed Stratford athlete. There was another success in the B string of the same event with Gavin Moorhead winning in 11.34.0.

The women’s team also put in some strong displays, headed by Joanne Frost who won the 100m A string race in 12.6 and the 200m A string in 26.1.

The strongest event for the ladies proved the javelin. Samantha Lloyd won the A string with a throw of 37.59m, over 13cm further than the second placed Yate athlete, while Charlotte Tongue took another first place for B&R AC with a throw of 21.29m.
