FOOTBALL legends and a hit band will be descending on Redditch as a town fund-raising organisation hosts its annual events.

The Night of Legends organised by Team Lewis - set up in 2007 after the tragic death of Lewis O’Neill - features former Birmingham City players Geoff Horsfield and Michael Johnson.

TalkSPORT’s Ian Danter will also be attending the evening at Redditch United’s Valley Stadium on Friday, August 31, to act as guest host.

A limited number of tickets are still available for the event, which will feature a memorabilia auction with all proceeds going to Acorns Children’s Hospice, which looked after Lewis during his battle with Krabbe Leukodystrophy.

His dad Lee O’Neill told the Standard: “We are all really excited and looking forward to hosting our evening with two real legends of football.

“When putting on an event like this it takes a lot of careful planning and hard work. Our aim at Team Lewis is to always deliver and put on a professional event for people to enjoy.

“We take so much pride in what we do and hopefully all our supporters and guests on the night will see that. We are always forever grateful for the support we have throughout the town.”

Two days later the fund-raising will continue as Team Lewis hosts its charity football game at the same venue.

Their team will kick off against Birmingham City All Stars at 11am on Sunday, September 2, with special guests including Geoff Horsfield, Micky Hazard, Graham Roberts and Gavin Mahon.

Indie band Reverend and the Makers will also be making an appearance at the game in support of the fund-raising work done by the organisation.

For £8 tickets to the Night of Legends, which starts at 8pm with doors open from 7pm, call Redditch United on 01527 67450. Admission on the gate for the charity game is £5 for adults and £3 for under 16s.
