THE JUNIORS at Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club started the summer holidays with a trip to Kettering for the second meeting of the Heart of England Division Two League.
U11 athlete Lewis Byng was again in good form in winning the 75m A race in 10.8. In the B race Josh Osbourne-Patel ran 12.8 to take 5th.
In the girls U11 75m Beth Lloyd came 2nd in 11.5s, being awarded the same time as the 1st place athlete.
Osbourne-Patel also ran in the 600m race, finishing 6th in 2.07.08. In the girls race Lloyd finished 1st with a time of 2.03.5.
In the U13 100m Oliver Bytom ran 15.5s to take 5th. Joshua Pearson ran in this age category in the 200m and took 2nd in 28.0s.
The girls 200m saw Olivia Worth finish 6th in 33.6s. In the 800m U13 athlete Jack Drysdale ran 2.46 to finish 4th and Olivia Worth ran 2.47.7 to take 3rd in the girls race.
In the U13 girls 1,500m Amy Mijovic-Couldwell finished 2nd in 5.43.2 and in the hurdles competition Eva James finished 5th in 18.5 for the 70m and for the boys 75mH Joshua Pearson won in 14.6.
The club was represented by Danny Nicholls in the U15 100m who took 3rd with a PB of 12.4. Oliver Kemp took 3rd in the B race with 12.9, in the girls race Rebekah Miller ran 13.8 to take 3rd place, just .1s ahead of the Sutton Coldfield athlete, and in the B race Ashleigh Beavan finished 2nd in 13.8.
Kemp went on to run the 200m, winning in a time of 24.7s, .1s ahead of the 2nd placed Dudley & Stourbridge athlete. Danny Nicholls won the B race in 26.0.
Taking on the 200m Rebekah Miller finished 2nd in 27.9 in the A race and Jessica Bennett ran a PB of 30.0 to finish 2nd in the B.
In the 400m race Andrew Pearson finished 3rd in 59.6. Thomas Ellis represented the U15s in the 800m, finishing 5th in 2.53.5.
In the girls race Abbie Kemp finished 4th in 2.51.9 despite being spiked on the first lap, which prevented her from competing in the rest of the competition.
In the boys 1,500m Ben O'Connor ran a PB of 5.03.9 to take 5th and Ruth Gameson took another 5th in the girls event, finishing in 5.54.3.
Jessica Bennett won the 75m hurdles with a PB of 13.7 and Andrew Pearson won the 80m hurdles in 13.7 in the A and Thomas Ellis came 2nd in the B race in 18.3.
In the U17 men's category the 200m saw Adam Plummer finish 7th in 25.8s in the A and Alistair Mandando 4th with 26.7 in the B.
In the 400m Simeon Clarence went off in blistering style to finish 1st in 51.8s in the A race and Adam Plummer ran 57.4 to finish 2nd in the B.
Mandando also ran in the 800m, taking 2nd in 2.16.2 in the A race, with James Downing taking 2nd with a time of 2.16.5 in the B.
In the relays B&R finished 4th in the U17 men's 4x100m with a time of 50.6 and 2nd in the U15 boys category in 51.9. The U15 girls team achieved 3rd in 56.1s.
In the high jump competition Christian James achieved a PB of 1.45 which placed him 2nd in the U15 boys competition and in the U13 girls competition Eva James gave the club another 2nd with a PB jump of 1.20.
The long jump competition saw James Downing take 4th with a jump of 4.85 in the U17 men's A competition, whilst Lewis Anderson took 2nd in the B with 3.91.
In the U15 boys competition Andrew Pearson jumped a PB of 4.66m to place him 2nd and it was another 2nd place for the club for Joshua Pearson who jumped 4.09 in the U13 competition.
In the U11 category Lewis Byng not only won with a PB of 4.43m but also jumped the furthest this year in his age category.
Candy Lockett took 3rd with 4.35 in the U15 girls category in the A competition and Ashleigh Beavan was 1st in the B string with 4.23.
In the U13 competition Lucy Harris jumped a PB of 4.12m to win the A competition and Amy Mijovic-Couldwell leapt 3.25 to take 3rd in the B.
The shot putt competition saw James Downing finish 4th with a throw of 5.82m in the U17 competition and Oliver Kemp throw 9.03 and finish 3rd in the U15s.
Sydney McKenzie took 3rd with a PB of 7.72m in the U15 girls competition and in the U13 event Amy Mijovic-Couldwell threw 3.27 to place 5th.
In the U15 discus competition Liam Bowden threw 19.51 to take 3rd in the A competition and Thomas Ellis threw 12.58 to finish 2nd in the B.
In the U15 girls competition Candy Lockett threw 21.78 to finish 2nd.
The winners on the day were Kettering Town Harriers. B&R's boys finished 4th and the girls were 6th.
Team manager Philip Woodyatt commented that, although B&R athletes were perhaps fewer in number than usual due to the summer holidays, there were some excellent performances on the day.
The next and last match is on September 2 in Worcester.
