CHILDREN in Redditch have been munching their way to gold by creating healthy Olympic power bars.

Pupils from Skilts School and St Luke's First School had fun getting their hands sticky and tasting healthy treats as they were challenged to create their own protein energy bars fit for elite athletes from Team GB to eat.

They had to choose from ingredients including oats, cranberries, apricots and pumpkin seeds and the bars were given names such as Fantastic Berry Boost Bar, Super Sports Bar, Super Dupa Bar and the children designed logos for the packaging.

The session was run by Yum Tum Club which offers tailored Food Education programmes to support the Government’s Every Child Matters initiative.

Founder Fay Yeng said: "The Olympic fever is a unique opportunity to highlight the relationship between food and health. Athletes such as Jessica Ennis, Tom Daley and Usain Bolt are fantastic role models”.
