One stop shop to move in to library plan

WOODROW Library could soon house the district's One Stop Shop if proposals are given the green light by councillors.

The plans, the details of which are currently being kept confidential by Redditch Borough Council, would see both services being provided at the Woodrow Centre building.

It is part of Worcestershire County Council's efforts to protect libraries from closure by joining them with other services or sharing buildings to reduce costs.

The borough council's executive committee is expected to make a final decision at a meeting on Tuesday (July 24).

Kathy Kirk, strategic libraries and learning manager for Worcestershire County Council which is responsible for the library, said: "The approach to achieving the libraries and learning team's savings target of £1.8 million is to investigate ways of working closer with local communities, local groups and district and parish councils.

"Any changes affecting any of our libraries will be announced once proposals have been developed, but we are committed to maintaining comprehensive services for library users across the county, despite our budget pressures."
