Relay runners do the club proud

BROMSGROVE and Redditch AC are celebrating after finishing a very creditable 13th position in the annual Welsh Castles Relay.

Some 59 teams competed in the 30th running of the event, which was thankfully unaffected by the flooding across parts of Wales.

With each team fielding 20 runners to cover the 211 miles, B & R athletes, who were managed by Mark Appleton, negotiated busy roads, hills and mountains on route from Caernarfon to Cardiff.

Two club records were broken across the weekend and included Andy Freeman’s 3rd position on Stage 5 (9.6 miles) in a time of 57-58 and Mark Graham’s 6th position on Stage 13 (10.6 miles), setting a new club record of 1-03.49.

Katy Anderson was B & R’s only stage winner, finishing first lady on Stage 15. She was awarded the coveted ‘Yellow Jersey’ for her outstanding performance over the 12.8 mile distance, finishing in 1-24.33.
