THE REDDITCH United Girls Football Club Women's team are celebrating after reaching the final of the Birmingham County League Open Cup for the first time since the creation of an open age team under the banner of RUGFC six years ago.
Advancing to the final is a remarkable success story for the team, who have come a long way since the first season which saw them fielding only eight players some weeks.
The last three seasons have seen consistent performances in the league as the team finished in the top four or five and just missed out on promotion to the West Midlands Regional Southern League.
The period has also seen a significant turnover of players due to a combination of education, work and family commitments.
Most players have advanced through the RUGFC club, some starting as young as nine, and this tradition is continuing.
Whatever the outcome of the final, the Reds women can be truly proud of their success and this has been achieved as a cohesive squad.
The final against Bilbrook Ladies takes place on Sunday, May 20 at Chelmsley Town FC, near Marston Green in Birmingham, with a 10.30am kick-off.
