TRAVELLERS illegally camping on the Abbey Stadium car park have been given 48 hours to leave.

As the Standard went to press, Redditch Borough Council officers were set to advise the travellers they must get off the land in accordance with Worcestershire’s joint protocol between the police and councils.

A council spokesman said the group were being given until the end of yesterday (Thursday) to leave.

“If they were to fail to vacate after 48 hours then we would begin the legal repossession process, such as is currently being carried out at council land at Old Forge Drive car park, where traveller caravans recently arrived.”

He added a similar site at Heming Road was on privately owned land and was therefore a private trespass issue. The owners were aware and were taking action.
