THERE was deserved recognition for several Redditch Rugby Club members at the North Midlands RFU Volunteer Awards evening which took place at Worcester Rugby Club last Wednesday.

Four Redditch RFC volunteers were recognised for their services to the Bromsgrove Road club as nominees for the prestigious Sixways occasion.

Doug Billyard was a nominee in the Club Volunteer of the Year section for his contribution to both the rugby club and the main multi-sport club, whilst Gary Mills was a nominee for the Long Service Award for his many years of service to the Kingfishers.

Gabby Hemming was a nominee in the Senior Volunteer of the Year category for her efforts above and beyond in setting up and running the ladies rugby section.

Dave Joynes was nominated for the Groundsman of the Year honour for his unceasing work in developing, providing and maintaining the club's county level first team pitch and his efforts were fully rewarded as he was crowned winner of the accolade.

All the nominees received a certificate of recognition and a badge from the RFU, whilst Dave also received a special trophy and tie.
