THRIVING Hewell Bowling Club is on the lookout for new members as its centenary year draws ever closer.

The club, based in Holyoakes Lane just behind The Tardebigge pub, recently held a very successful open day to encourage new members and a dozen people enjoyed a morning in the sunshine trying their hand at lawn bowls.

And now more new faces are being encouraged to join the fun at the club, which was opened by the Earl of Plymouth in 1914 and is very active in the local leagues and county competitions.

A month's free trial is being offered to new members and the club is holding another open day on Sunday, June 10 from 11am until 1pm, when people are welcome to come along, look at the clubhouse and bowling green, meet members and have a go at bowling themselves.

Anyone interested in doing so should bring a pair of trainers. Membership is open to anyone and all ages.

The club also holds free coaching sessions on Wednesday and Friday nights between 6-8pm and everyone is welcome to come along and have a go at what is a very friendly club which holds social activities throughout the season.

The club is situated in Holyoakes Lane, Redditch, B97 5SR, just behind The Tardebigge pub. If you cannot make Sunday's open day but are still interested, please call Sheila Williams on 01527 524093 or Martin Lawrence on 01527 570745 for more details.
