A TEENAGE girl had her handbag snatched as she got off a bus in Woodrow.

The 17-year-old was walking home on Tuesday (June 5) when the salmon pink bag was ripped off her shoulder from behind, breaking the metal chain strap. It contained about £80, a white Samsung Galaxy S2 mobile phone and a bank card along with other personal items.

She chased after the man but lost sight of him in Kempsey Close. The robbery happened about 5.20pm in Bushley Close.

The man was about 5ft 8ins tall, stocky and was wearing a grey top with black detail and a hood which was up. He was also wearing dark, straight trousers or tracksuit bottoms. The bag was made from soft plastic and in a quilted design.

Police have carried out house-to-house enquiries in the area and are studying CCTV footage.

Det Con Ashok Kumar, of Redditch CID, said: "We want to talk to anyone who may have seen anything of this incident, noticed a male hanging around there at the time or if they can help identify the offender.

"The bag that was stolen is quite distinctive and may have been thrown away by the thief so we would also be interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen or found it."

Anyone with any information should contact DC Kumar at Redditch Police Station on 101, quoting incident reference 441-S-050612, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
