ALCESTER and Astwood Bank residents are set to feature in a 1,000-strong parade of boats on the River Thames as part of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Mandy Harrison and Pauline Young have been selected as two of the team in the Pershore Phoenix - one of the 14 Dragon Boats which will make its way down the river on Sunday (June 3).
They will be joined by working boats, rowed boats and armed services vessels for the formal procession between 2pm and 6pm, giving a special salute with their paddles as they pass the monarch.
Mandy, who owns Mind Body and Soul salon in Alcester, began taking part in Dragon Boating ten years ago, with jewellery maker Pauline joining the team last year.
Mandy said: “We can’t wait and are all really excited. It’s great to taking part in the celebrations and representing people locally.”
