ALCESTER ACADEMY pupil Oliver Cook produced an impressive performance at the Gailey Canoe Club Marathon in Penkridge to easily win the Division Nine race.
The 12-year-old from Studley, who paddles for Solihull Canoe Club, clocked a time which would have seen him finish second in Division Seven and gained him immediate promotion to that class.
This was only Oliver's second race in Division Nine since transferring last season from the under 12 Lightning class, in which his final race at the National Geoff Sanders Trophy Finals saw him finish second to the class champion.
His coaches are now looking forward to a steady progression through the marathon rankings and Oliver is also planning to compete in a full season of sprint regattas.
