ALCESTER RFC held their senior presentation evening at the Kings Coughton clubhouse last Friday evening when several fun and more serious awards were handed out.
The first team Players' Player of the Year award was won by Ben Hope and the Coaches' Player of the Year honour went to Brett Allard.
Young Player of the Year was Jack Green, second team Players' Player of the Year was Steve Green and Most Improved Player was Rikki Bowers.
On Sunday the annual Alcester seven-a-side competition took place and, despite the dreadful weather which prompted many of the already registered sides to cry off, the event proved a great success.
Eight teams from the local area and further afield braved the gale force winds and torrential rain and turned up for the event, which was won for the second year running by Leamington Mavericks who defeated Old Laurentians Racing Snakes in the final.
The real stars of the show, however, were touring side Cleve RFC from the Bristol area who called into Alcester to take part in the event on their way back from their tour of Liverpool.
The Cleve side, the Flunkies, comprised of tour debutants that were only made aware of their requirement to play by their tour management as they pulled into Alcester RFC's car park!
Alcester themselves tasted rare success in their own competition by avenging a 34-7 defeat in the group stages by Cooke's Crusaders to beat them later in the tournament and win the Plate competition.
Despite their lack of preparation and alcohol-dominated diet of the previous 48 hours, Cleve claimed the Plate runners-up prize - much to their tour party's surprise - with two wins.
The Rugby Force working day takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at the club between 10am-4pm when members and friends of the club are invited to spare an hour or stay all day to spruce up the clubhouse and grounds. For more details contact Andy Flynn on 07923 436184.
The junior awards day presentation of this season's awards for all junior section age groups will take place on Sunday at the clubhouse in Kings Coughton and friends old and new are welcome to join in the celebrations.
