New charity centre opens its doors

A NEW look charity centre is aiming to raise money for a number of good causes as well as stop resident’s unwanted goods from going to landfill.

The Boomerang Charity Centre, just off Unicorn Hill, is a joint venture between the furniture and household goods re-use charity and four others including Macmillan, Paws, Motor Neuron Disease and Hope and Kindness. The shop’s aim is to raise money for causes close to the hearts of all the volunteers.

The shop survives solely on donations and even offers a delivery and collection service for unwanted furniture so it can be reused by others in the borough, stopping it from being taken to the tip.

The centre also boasts more than 6,000 books and a selection of electricals such as DVD players at affordable prices.

Dr Tony Pratt, a volunteer, said although the shop supports a number charities, it also focuses on those who have been hit hard by the recession.

“In times like these, people can’t afford the prices that other shops offer. Our products are affordable to everyone with children’s clothes as cheap as 20p,” he said.
