THE HENDRIE brothers proved the inspiration as they led Redditch United to a 3-0 victory at Arlesey Town on Saturday which clinched the Reds’ Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division survival.
The addition of midfield stars Stuart and Lee - recruited from Hinckley United and Kidderminster Harriers respectively in deals until the end of the season - has proved a masterstroke by manager Graham Hyde, with the backing of chairman Chris Swan, and they bagged all three goals between them at the Armadillo Stadium.
This was the tenth time in the last 13 matches that Hyde’s settled side had earned a draw or victory and, coupled with Swindon Supermarine’s 2-0 loss at home to Barwell, it ensured Redditch cannot finish the season in the bottom four.
The 15th placed Reds, who appear to have the nucleus of a strong side for next season, will now aim to finish their campaign in style when they host Weymouth, who trail United by a place and goal difference, tomorrow.
Saturday’s opening goal arrived four minutes into the second period when Stuart Hendrie fired home from the edge of the area and the lead was doubled on the hour mark when Lee was rewarded for his persistence in chasing down a long ball and he scored at the second attempt.
The former Aston Villa star completed the scoring in the 89th minute with another composed finish from 18 yards and the travelling faithful were left to celebrate their side’s survival in Bedfordshire.
MEANWHILE, the Reds have been boosted as they look towards next season by striking a deal with local web design, marketing, hosting and software experts IO Studios, who will sponsor United.
For the past five years IO Studios has built a successful business, now employing five local people, and is focused on supporting local businesses as part of its growth strategy.
The company has chosen to sponsor Redditch United next season as a result of the club’s continued commitment to the local area, especially as it focuses on developing local apprenticeships.
The firm’s managing director Thomas Floate said: “We are delighted to sponsor the club. The heart shown by the players over the past few games has been inspiring and this matches what we are aiming to do for local companies as we develop and build internet solutions which help companies market their service to customers.
“We are looking forward to a great season for the Reds.”
