Scheme set to help victims

A NEW system set up to help victims of anti-social behaviour is set to be rolled out across Worcestershire.

The project was successfully trialled by police in Telford and Wrekin as part of a national campaign including eight forces. It involves creating a system which allows call handlers to see previous incidents reported from the same telephone number, with repeat victims flagged up. Police counter staff will also be trained in risk assessment so they can deal with victims coming to stations to report anti-social behaviour.

Care plans will be introduced and will be agreed by the victim and partner organisations before being implemented.

Ch Insp Jim Baker said: “West Mercia Police, along with its partners, is committed to providing an outstanding service to its communities.

“Together we have developed a way of assessing risk at the point of contact and developed partnership working in all areas of business to help victims and communities.

“We have seen encouraging initial results from our trial, including better working relationships with other agencies and an improved service to the victim. 100 per cent of Telford anti-social behaviour victims surveyed by telephone were satisfied with how they were treated by the police.”
