CONCERNS are growing for the welfare of a Batchley pensioner whose car was found abandoned in nearby Worcester.
Robert Allen was last seen by his daughter at 12pm on Easter Sunday at his home in Ash Tree Road. Arrangements were made to collect him from there on Monday afternoon (April 9) but there was no trace of him or his car.
The 80-year-old's black Kia Picanto was found by police in Grandstand Road in Worcester during the afternoon and it has been established it was driven into the city between 4am and 5am on Monday. Dog handlers and the force helicopter are currently searching the area, including the river banks.
PC Gemma Pawlik of West Mercia Police said: "Mr Allen has been depressed of late but he has not gone missing before so this is out of character.
"We are obviously very concerned for his welfare, as is his family, and we would appeal to anyone who has seen him or knows anything at all that could help us to get in touch without delay."
Mr Allen is white, about 5ft 6ins tall and of medium build with thinning, grey hair and a moustache. He normally wears glasses and is believed to have been wearing a fawn coloured jacket.
Anyone with any information should call PC Pawlik on 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 256-N-090412.
