Alcester RFC juniors reports

ALCESTER U16s hosted a strong Bromsgrove outfit on Sunday and the visitors’ speedy backs and strong pack outclassed the Kings Coughton side to seal a 58-17 victory.

The damage was done in the first half as Bromsgrove made good use of their downhill advantage, although there were some encouraging moves by Alcester as a rolling maul made about 20m upfield and a number of lineouts were won.

Alcester coach Scott Carmichael set his boys a challenge at half time to get at least one score, but the start of the second half saw Bromsgrove provide more of the same as two tries were quickly run in.

However, Alcester started to get more of the ball and a good move down the line got to Ryan Clark who used his speed to go through a gap.

A Bromsgrove defender tackled well but could not hold Clark who came crashing to the ground. However, he was able to get back to his feet and finish off the move to score Alcester’s first try.

A little while later a well worked lineout went to Anthony D’Amico who made good ground down the wing. This was followed up by a number of pick and drives with good recycling of the ball until D’Amico finished off his move to score.

Bromsgrove replied with two quick tries of their own but Alcester were playing much better by now and used the maul to good effect again.

Jacob Turner slipped though a gap in tight play by selling a dummy and looked like he would score but effective tackling brought him to ground.

However, Alcester were awarded a penalty and Matt Gunningham managed to barge his way over the line to score.

The second half performance from Alcester was very encouraging for the future and there were notable performances from Jamie Styler, Tom Alder and D’Amico, but man of the match went to Lewis Hopkins for his excellent tackling.

ALCESTER U12s followed their deserved victory of the previous weekend against Stratford with an impressive 25-10 win over Bromsgrove on Sunday.

They led 10-0 at half time and had it not been for much of the team suffering ‘try line fever’ it could have been a much bigger lead at the break.

In the second half the team finally settled and crossed for three more good scores.

Man of the match was debutant Marshall Glarvey and try-scorers were Ollie Hanson, Leo Clarke and Adam Hooper.
