Sister Act, Wolverhampton Grand

Wednesday, February 8

COMEDY, glitz, glamour and the world-famous story of a convent overhauled by the glamorous Deloris Van Cartier was on offer at Wolverhampton Grand as Sister Act the musical came to town.

A seamless performance came from the whole cast, which included Cynthia Erivo in the lead role, Brookside's Michael Starke as Monsignor O'Hara and Denise Black, made famous by roles in Coronation Street and Bad Girls, as Mother Superior.

Set in the 70s, a departure from the film's original setting of the 90s, it was a night of fun for all - even those who had not seen the film.

Following Deloris through her journey at the convent where she is sent for her own protection, the show was all singing, all dancing but also included some tender moments, particularly the bond which she forms with Mother Superior.

Special mention must go to Julie Atherton for her role as Sister Mary Robert as her stunning voice really wowed the crowds.

All in all, it was a thoroughly entertaining evening with all actors putting their all in to the singing, dancing and comedy which combined to have the audience dancing along and laughing long after the final curtain.
