Warning over mattress seller

A DODGY salesman offering mattresses from the back of his van could cause residents' sweet dreams to turn into a nightmare.

Residents have contacted the Standard to say they or family members had been offered a 'Dreams' memory foam mattress for up to £1,000 cash in Woodrow and Greenlands.

The seller was wearing a shirt with the Dreams logo on it and claimed to be from the bed and mattress specialists.

But a spokeswoman for Dreams said the suspicious looking man has nothing to do with their company and police are now looking into the matter.

"This does crop up from time to time. It is people who are trading on the back of the Dreams name and brand," she added.

"People should keep in mind the only place to buy Dreams mattresses is either from the website or in one of our stores."

Police confirmed they had received a report of a suspicious man trying to sell mattresses claiming to be from Dreams in a white van last Thursday (February 9) on the Woodrow estate.

A spokeswoman said: "We are aware of the man selling mattresses from the back of a van and we are investigating the incident. If anyone sees the person they should let us know as soon as possible, preferably as they see it, making a note of the van's registration number.

"We would advise people not to buy the mattresses from the man and to only buy them from reputable stores."

Anyone with information or who is offered a mattress should call police on 0300 333 3000 quoting reference number 0374-S-090212.

Worcestershire Regulatory Services advise residents not to purchase goods from unknown individuals selling from vans. Consumers should always shop around when buying goods to ensure that they are getting a fair deal. It can be very risky buying goods from unknown sources, if there are problems with the purchase you will not be able to contact the seller and get any redress. It is also unclear where these products are sourced and therefore could be unsafe, counterfeit or stolen.
