THE MAJOR £2.7million project to upgrade Alcester’s sewage system will be finished on time Severn Trent bosses insist.
The water company had hoped to have the bottom end of the high street open by now but health and safety concerns have scuppered their plans. Work will finish by Friday, February 10 as originally planned though, but an early end is now unlikely due to the need to re-design part of the scheme.
To minimise disruption further, Severn Trent and British Telecom have worked together to allow the communications giant to use the road closure to improve broadband access in the town rather than having to dig it up again in a few weeks time.
The project is being carried out by Severn Trent’s contractors Morgan Sindall and includes building an additional foul water storage tank, installing 500 metres of new sewer and increasing the capacity of some of the existing sewers in Alcester Town Centre. Although the work has caused some disruption Alcester remains open for business.
Anyone with any concerns about the work should call Severn Trent on 0800 783 4444 for more information.
