DESPITE taking the lead Woodrush were rarely competitive in Saturday's encounter at high-flying Old Leamingtonians, in which a 34-5 loss was their third league defeat in succession and saw them finish the first half of the Midlands Three West (South) season in seventh place.
For a long period of time either side of Jack Connolly's try, the visitors' defences stood firm, and they also won the majority of scrummages and pushed Old Leamingtonians off most of their own ball.
However, Woodrush's makeshift back line could not cope and eventually leaked six tries as they recorded their fourth defeat on the trot in all competitions.
Woodrush, whose target for the season now appears to be a fifth placed finish, will be hoping the festive break will enable several key players to return to fitness as they look to make a return to winning ways at bottom placed Old Yardleians on January 7.
