DEPARTING Alvechurch boss Shaun Cunnington believes a second trophy of the season would be the perfect parting gift.
After lifting the Worcestershire Senior Urn a few weeks ago, ’Church tackle fellow Midland Alliance rivals Westfields in the Infirmary Cup final tomorrow.
And the former West Brom player is hoping to end his tenure on a successful note.
“It would be nice to finish the season on a high and win another cup for the club before we leave,” Cunnington told The Standard.
“I am looking to progressing to a higher level and have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Alvechurch, the people have been fantastic to me.
“I have learnt a lot after coming down from Kidderminster but I have done my apprenticeship in non-league football now.
“I want to get back to where I was a few years ago. I wish the club all the best.
“I have nothing but praise for the people behind the scenes who do a fantastic job to get the games on and to meet the budget.”
Cunnington pinpoints his side’s congested fixture schedule as the reason behind their failed promotion bid.
The Lye Meadow outfit finished a point behind local rivals Studley in 14th after playing 15 times in March and April.
The club’s cup runs took precedence over their league form as they won just four times in that sequence and Cunnington admits to being disappointed.
“I was not happy with the final league position,” Cunnington added.
“It is a massive ask for a squad of just 18 players to have that many games in that short a space of time.
“It is difficult to keep the players at the level of performance that we wanted.
“We suffered a few injuries and players that were due a rest were not able to have one.”
