  • Studley finish a whisker in front

    Will Wood

    01 May 2008

THE 2008 Midland Alliance campaign finally came to an end on Saturday with Studley finishing just one point ahead of local rivals Alvechurch.
In the final fixtures of the season Alvechurch lost 2-1 at Stratford Town and Studley went down 1-0 at home to Coalville Town.
Studley experienced an up and down campaign and eventually finished 13th while ‘Church had a season of two halves and were close behind in 14th.
The Bees struggled initially and won just twice in their first 11 games, but then won five of their next six matches in October and November to shoot up the table.
But just two wins in their next nine fixtures saw them plunge back down the standings undoing all their hard work.
Five wins from seven then fired them up the league once more before four games without a win catapulted them back down again.
However, Lee Adams’ men were then eyeing a top six finish with three consecutive wins but defeat in their final two clashes saw them finish 13th.
Alvechurch meanwhile were one of the early front runners after winning 12 of their first 21 matches and lost just once on the road before Christmas.
‘Church acquired a total of 38 points from the first half of their campaign but in 2008 they picked up just 20 to finish in 14th.
Their league campaign took a back seat while they concentrated on the cup competitions and they won just five games in the second half of the season.
Their home form seemed to be their biggest problem as they lost more than half of their fixtures in front of their own fans.
