ASTWOOD Bank Carnival's annual charity Race Night is being held at the Oddfellows Arms next Thursday (May 8).
Bets are taken on horse races shown on a big screen in the Retreat Street pub with the proceeds going into the charity funds which will be bolstered with the main carnival day on May 17.
The Race Night starts at 8.30pm and is part of the Astwood Bank Carnival programme which is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year. The event is followed by the annual Fun Run and Teddy Bears’ Picnic, both held on Sunday, May 11.
More than 100 runners of all ages and abilities, some wearing the customary fancy dress, are expected to take part in the run and dozens of youngsters are expected to turn up to the free Teddy Bears' Picnic in Astwood Bank Park at 12noon with picnics and cuddly toys in tow.
A bouncy castle is also being provided.
The sponsored Fun Run for the Robin Bourne Senior and Junior Trophies starts at the Oddfellows Arms at 11am and is about three miles for adults and one-and-a-half miles for under 17s.
The first 100 to complete the run receive commemorative mugs and there will be a special prize for the best fancy dress outfit.
Entry is free for those who raise more than £10 in sponsorship by May 10 and £4 for adults, £2 for juniors and £7 for family entries booked before May 11. The fees rise to £5, £2.50p and £8 respectively on the day.
Entry and sponsorship details are available from Pete The Meat on Evesham Road or Graeme Jones on 01527 894802.
A carnival committee spokesperson said: “We hope all these events will be well supported and just hope for good weather!”
