  • Zoe hits the target

    01 May 2008

A REDDITCH teenager is spearing ahead in the world of darts after being selected to represent the England Youth under 18s.
Zoe Jones, from Easemore Road, will be competing against youngsters from across the continent at the 19th European Youth Cup held at Swansea in July.
The 15-year-old, who has been playing darts for less than a year, has ventured across the country and Europe in the lead-up to her England selection.
In December 2007 she was selected to play for Worcestershire Senior Ladies B team, but after winning her first three games she was promoted to the A team and at the beginning of this year was chosen to play for Warwickshire Youth.
Zoe has also left her mark on the under 18 and under 21 ladies Youth Competitions, coming runner-up in the Dutch Youth Open in Holland, and winning both the Leicestershire Youth Open and the England Youth Open, giving her a place in the much sought-after Winmau World Masters.
Mum Nicky Jones said she was extremely proud of her daughter.
"We didn't realise she had such a talent for it until she started playing with her dad, brother and other members of the family," she told The Standard.
"She was soon into a number of competitions across the country and Europe and she goes from strength to strength."
The next step up for the teenager, in order to achieve her ambition of being the future World Number One Ladies Darts Champion, is to secure sponsorship. She has already caught the eye of Red Dragon Darts which is now supplying her with all her accessories, but financial support is still a problem.
Mrs Jones added: "Like anything at such a high level, it is very expensive, especially with all the travelling.
"So we are looking for local businesses who can help sponsor Zoe so she can carry on competing at this level."
For more information or to offer sponsorship, visit zoejones.co.uk or call 07976 913830.
